A whole week has passed since Cyber Monday brought Black Friday madness to a close for another year. Let’s take a moment to reset and check out these surprisingly big winners before the Christmas rush comes into full force!
A shift from the ‘norm’
You may be surprised to hear that shoppers this year look to be attempting to lower their screen time by searching for new ways to pass the cold winter nights. There has been a shift away from digital as the items which saw the biggest increase in traffic were vinyl records and books.
Turning back time
As Black Friday is perceived to be one of the most important trading periods of the year, we took the opportunity to examine how many retailers on eBay performed over this period. The data showed that vinyl records and books saw the greatest increase in visitors, other main attractions were CDs and Art. These are certainly not what you would expect to be a booming trend during e-commerce's busiest time. We were amazed to see such a huge shift towards the more “old school” forms of entertainment on the online marketplace.
What we think of this unlikely trend...
There could be various reasons for this shift in behaviour. A major factor we predict could be affecting this is the number of people still working from home. It is possible they are looking at different ways to switch off and relax. There is the added possibility that the different demographics now shopping online due to the pandemic are the reason for the unexpected surge in traffic. These are just two of many factors which could have majorly impacted search and filtering patterns.
