Navigating through eBay mandates: February 2023 reminder
eBay’s latest mandate deadline date is just under three weeks away. Have you updated your listings yet?
Below are the categories affected with new required item specifics by the 22 February for all eBay listings.

What are item specifics?
Item specifics are simply filters people use to search for specific items. This could include colour, size, brand, material and everything in between.
There are four different types of item specifics:
- Required: Required item specifics are mandatory for eBay sellers.
- Required Soon: Required soon item specifics aren't mandatory yet, but will be in the near future.
- Recommended: Recommended item specifics are optional but provide more information to your buyers
- Additional: Additional item specifics are optional and provide extra information about your listings to potential buyers. These values are not as highly searched as the recommended item specifics, but should be populated where possible to ensure your listing is optimised to its fullest.
By eBay continuously updating their item specifics, it benefits both the buyer and the seller. Buyers have more options to narrow down their search to find exactly what it is they are looking for and sellers get the opportunity to include these item specifics to get their products in front of the buyer more easily.
What you need to do next
eBay mandates come around 2-3 times a year and although they may seem like a nuisance, it’s important to take action before the deadline date. If you have listings under any of the above categories mentioned, you need to start updating each one with the newly added or changed item specifics.
